Discover the Possibilities after Rhinoplasty
Many patients at the Storch Plastic Surgery Facility are understandably concerned with the results and recovery after rhinoplasty at our Aventura practice. Thanks to Dr. Michael Storch’s skill and experience, the vast majority of our patients find that as soon as the outer bandage, or splint, is removed (generally on day four or five following the surgery) they are very pleased with the results and refinements that are already visible. Only after several months is the final rhinoplasty result truly visible.
Recovery and Results
The final outcome or result is the main consideration or priority for most plastic surgery patients. Following the rhinoplasty procedure the recovery process is generally fairly rapid and consistent. Most patients report being uncomfortable, and feeling some pressure and aching inside the nose, for the first few days after the surgery. Once the bandages and internal soft airway stents and packing are removed, most patients are much more comfortable. This is generally after the fourth to the tenth day after the surgery. It largely depends on exactly what specific nasal surgery was done. Barring any unforeseen complications the bulk of the recovery will be complete after two to three weeks.
For the first 24 hours following surgery we instruct the patient to keep their head elevated. The patient’s face and nose will generally be swollen and may ache, and the patient may also have a dull headache. Following the rhinoplasty procedure your nose will generally have a type of packing inside. The packing is generally a type of soft silicone tube that is designed to allow the patient to breathe through their nose even with this packing in place. This type of nasal packing is also designed to slide out easily when it is removed; there will also be a plaster splint with adhesive tape to keep your nose protected. The packing and bandages will generally be removed after the first few days of recovery. Generally, a few days after the rhinoplasty procedure at our Aventura practice, the swelling and bruising will peak and begin to subside rather quickly, many of the symptoms can be reduced through the use of cold compresses. One of the common concerns after rhinoplasty at our Aventura practice is a possible nose bleed. Significant bleeding from the nose following surgery is rare, though some dripping of blood onto the “drip pad” is very common for a few days after the procedure. It is important to follow Dr. Storch’s instructions, and do not blow your nose for approximately one week after the rhinoplasty procedure. After about one week most patients are able to return to their normal routines but are to avoid any strenuous activity for at least three or four weeks. Complete recovery from rhinoplasty can frequently take from three months to a year.
While complete recovery after rhinoplasty in Aventura can take time, the positive results will frequently be noticeable within a very short time. The most important step to ensure your desired results after rhinoplasty at our Aventura practice is to follow all of Dr. Storch’s post operative instructions.
