BREAST IMPLANT TYPES
Breast implants utilize several different materials to provide a customizable look and feel from breast augmentation surgery. In addition to filler material, you can also take advantage of different shapes, sizes, and even textures for the most personal results.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline implants provide an increased breast size with a sterile saltwater solution. These have the advantage of being able to be inserted before being filled, meaning the incision is shorter for these implants. However, patients have noted that these do not feel as much like natural breast tissue as silicone implants, and they can cause visible rippling in some cases.
Silicone Breast Implants
Pre-filled with a safe, sterile silicone gel, silicone breast implants feel more like breast tissue than saline, but require a longer incision. It won’t be as obvious if a rupture or leak occurs with these implants, as the gel cannot be absorbed by the body. In any implant, these complications need to be corrected by removing and replacing the implant.
Gummy Bear Implants
A newer development, so-called “gummy bear” implants are made with a form-stable silicone that won’t leak gel the same way that other silicone implants do. These implants provide the natural tissue benefits of silicone gel with a lower risk of rupture and leakage.
INCISION IMPLANT OPTIONS
Breast augmentation patients may have multiple options for incision placement, including under the breast fold, around the areola, or even under the arm depending on their unique surgical plan with Dr. Sárraga.
Inframammary Incision
The most common incision that provides Dr. Sárraga with the most visibility and access to the placement site is the inframammary incision. The resulting scar can be concealed in most clothing, underwear, and swimwear.
Periareolar Incision
In some cases, a periareolar incision can be used to place the implants. This leaves a scar that is easily concealable as it is hidden in the natural transition from the areolar skin pigment to the breast skin.
Transaxillary Incision
Some patients may opt for or be recommended this alternate incision, which leaves no visible scarring on the breasts, rather using the underarm as the opening for breast implant insertion.
IMPLANT PLACEMENT
There are three placement options that plastic surgeons have for breast implant surgery in Miami, FL. One option is the subglandular placement, which places the implant above the pectoralis muscle in the chest. Another option is to insert it under this muscle, called submuscular placement.
The third technique is called dual plane augmentation. The implant is placed partly under the muscle and partly under the gland. Dr. Sárraga feels that this positioning gives the breast the most natural implant enhancement result as the breast tissue, muscle, and implant are all in synchrony.

SCARLESS BREAST AUGMENTATION
Transaxillary Endoscopic Breast Augmentation (TEBA), also known as scarless breast augmentation, is a surgical procedure used to enhance the breasts without having to worry about any visible scarring. An incision is made in the underarm area and an endoscope is inserted through that incision.
